Wisconsin Oven is looks forwards to opportunities to give back to the community that has given them so much. Dave Strand, President and CEO, accepted the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness and donations for ALS research. The challenge involves people getting doused with buckets of ice water on video, posting that video to social media, and nominating others to do the same, all in an effort to raise ALS awareness. People who accept the challenge are to make a $10 donation to an ALS Charity of their choice, those who do not accept the challenge are to make a $100 donation. ALS, or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. The disease is incurable, and part of the reason for the challenge and the millions that it has raised, is to fund research to find a cure.

After Dave's challenge he nominated the Wisconsin Oven employees. Over 70 employees accepted the challenge on Friday, August 22nd. When Dave announced that the company would match any employee donations, the response was immediate and enthusiastic. The 70 employees that accepted the challenge raised $1500 toward the cause, and Wisconsin Oven matched that, bringing the total to $3000!
