Driving Manufacturing Forward with Manufacturing Month

Posted: Oct 25, 2019

Wisconsin Oven is proud to be celebrating manufacturing this month along with other manufacturers in the state. Manufacturing is Wisconsin’s number one industry, employing more than 470,000 people and creating almost $60 billion in economic output according to Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce.

During the month of October, Wisconsin manufacturers take the opportunity to inspire younger generations to pursue careers in manufacturing and engineering by inviting students, parents, teachers and community leaders inside their organizations to see the many opportunities manufacturing jobs can bring. Their common goal is to spark interest, inspire growth, and further the development of manufacturing across the country.

Manufacturing became the backbone of America almost immediately after the nation’s birth, when Samuel Slater built the nation’s first factory in 1790. Manufacturing jobs bounced back after the Great Recession, according to National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), with manufacturers adding an additional 1.37 million workers. Manufacturing now accounts for 8.5 percent of the workforce, with 8.05 million and 4.77 million workers in durable and nondurable goods manufacturing, respectively. Manufacturing remains a vital component of the U.S. economy and accounted for 11.4 percent of the GDP in 2018.

Wisconsin Oven – Supporting Manufacturing for over 4 decades

Manufacturing touches nearly every business in every industry. Wisconsin Oven has been a proud supplier of industrial ovens since 1973, and in the decades since, has continued to grow and provide thermal processing solutions to customers around the globe for a variety of applications. Some of the key industries that Wisconsin Oven supplies industrial ovens to include Aerospace, Automotive, and Foundry. All of these industries utilize manufacturing processes to bring their products and services to market.

Aerospace

With governmental work as its mainstay, the aerospace industry is a diverse field with a multitude of commercial, industrial, and military applications. The U.S. aerospace and defense (A&D) industry employed 2.5 million workers in 2018, according to the Aerospace Industries Association, and the commercial aerospace segment of the A&D industry supported 511,491 direct jobs. Wisconsin Oven provides equipment to the aerospace industry for a number of applications, such as heat treating of engine components with draw temper furnaces or composite curing of airplane fuselages with out of autoclave curing ovens.

Automotive

Manufacturing is a key component in the automotive industry which boasts around 9.9 million jobs in the United States, according to the Auto Alliance. Heat treatment is a process used by automotive manufacturers to improve the strength and durability of components so they can withstand the wear and tear of everyday use. Wisconsin Oven supplies batch and conveyor ovens to the automotive industry for applications such as tempering, annealing, heat-forming, and curing.

Foundry

Pulling in $33.7 billion per year and providing nearly 200,000 jobs in the United States, according to statistics presented by the American Foundry Society, metal casting is a large sector in manufacturing. Foundries cast parts out of steel, aluminum, and other metals with different casting methods depending on the part production rate, the intricacy of the finished part, and the metal being cast. Wisconsin Oven manufactures sand core drying and heat treat ovens used by the foundry industry.
